Wood stones, sidewalk cracks, and medieval math

JDS Gallery hosts Moscow, Idaho artist Jill Kyong for an artist talk Saturday, November 11th, at 1-2 PM. Jill will discuss her artist process and the inspiration behind her work, covering an array of subjects, from wood stones, sidewalk cracks, and medieval math to lyrics by music artist Nick Cave.

Highly minimalist, Jill’s abstract reliefs and sculpture unfold with layers of meaning. Some are spiced with humor, some are filled with heart, and some incorporate a playful interactive component.

Korean born artist Jill Kyong lives in Moscow, Idaho. She has a BFA from the University of Minnesota in sculpture and has taught woodworking at the Windgate Art School. She creates sculptural wall art, furniture, and sculpture primarily out of wood. Her work has been juried in to shows at the Wharton Esherick Museum in PA, The Art Center Highland Park in Chicago, the Korean-American Museum in Los Angeles, the Boise Art Museum where she won a juror’s award and was recently invited to show at the AAW Gallery of Wood Art in St. Paul, MN.
